Comfort food extravagance meets social-media spectacle in the new O-M-Cheese Burger from Applebee’s. Its interactive take on the burger transforms molten cheese into the centerpiece of the experience. The build layers an all-beef burger with American cheese, applewood-smoked bacon and spicy honey mustard. The defining move is serving it—halved, cut-side-down—in a sizzling skillet of queso and melted cheddar alongside fries designed for dipping into the bubbling cheese.
The burger taps directly into diners’ growing appetite for over-the-top comfort foods that deliver both craveability and visual drama. The skillet presentation creates the kind of theatrical cheese pull built for social sharing. “Guests want food that feels indulgent, comforting, shareable and worth talking about,” says Denise Covert, culinary innovations chef. “The O-M-Cheese Burger delivers that instant ‘I need to try that!’ reaction the second it hits the table—or someone’s social feed.”
Both the flavor and social strategies behind the build have paid off. It became the chain’s No. 1-selling burger on its “2 for $25” menu, helping introduce a new generation of diners to the brand. Behind the scenes, the culinary team carefully calibrated the indulgence factor through layered cheese applications, charred beef notes and textural contrast. “This burger is trend-forward yet authentically Applebee’s,” says Covert. “Bold in flavor, easy to execute and approachable for guests nationwide.”
