Over-the-top, experiential desserts continue to capture diners’ attention, and the most successful examples pair spectacle with flavors that guests know and love. The Churro Hot Fudge CrazySundae from Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer does exactly that, channeling the nostalgic appeal of churros, hot fudge sundaes and cinnamon-spiced treats into a shareable, interactive dessert experience.
At the center of the build is vanilla ice cream layered with Mexican hot fudge and dulce de leche, creating a rich interplay of chocolate, caramel and warm spices. Crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal adds sweet crunch throughout, while cinnamon-sugar cookies contribute a softer, “bakery-style” texture. Golden churros are tucked in, and the sundae is finished with whipped cream and a cherry on top.
“CrazySundae takes the distinctive sense of fun from our world-famous CrazyShake and the nostalgia of classic ice cream parlor sundaes, transforming it into an oversized shareable dessert designed to bring people together,” says Julie Mulligan, co-founder and CEO.
The flavor complexity of the Mexican hot fudge was key to the overall build. By incorporating cinnamon, a touch of salt and a subtle hint of heat, the team created a sauce that balances the dessert’s abundant sweetness while reinforcing the churro flavor profile. “It became the ingredient that tied the entire dessert together and ultimately pushed it to another level,” Mulligan says.
Equally important was the layering of textures, ensuring that every spoonful offers a different experience. “Rather than building a dessert that tasted the same from start to finish, the goal was to create multiple dimensions that unfolded throughout the experience,” she adds. The result is a dessert that feels both comfortingly familiar and unapologetically maximalist, proving that indulgence remains one of the most powerful forces on the menu.
